What's New at the Explorium?
Explorium Opens Children's Art Gallery
A new gallery gallery to display children's art was officially opened on April 25, during the Kid at HeART benefit event. The proceeds of the event support the the Explorium's Art Outreach Program. The new gallery, located in the former What's New 2 room, will display art from elementary, middle and high school students from various schools in the region.
The opening exhibit, Model City, was presented compliments of the Art Outreach Program and Harrison Elementary School. 32 Examples of Digital Art, by students in the Student Technology Leadership Program, opens May 22 and will remain on exhibit through June 19. The exhibit consists of original digital art, photography, manipulated photography and graphic design.
New Passport to the World Exhibit Opens
The Explorium announced it will unveil a new interactive world culture wall map, Passport to the World, to the public on March 27, 2009.
The projected image map, 7 feet by 9 feet in size, allows visitors to explore countries and cultures by the simple click of a track ball. Each location highlighted on the map has a corresponding video segment featuring a student native to the particular country.
The exhibit is made possible through a grant from the Kentucky Colonels with additional funding from Best Buy and completed in collaboration with the University of Kentucky's Department of Visualization and Office of International Affairs. The exhibit will be part of the permanent collection of discovery zones available to visitors and will be included in the regular admission price.
